The Chief Executive of BT Financial Group (BTFG), Brad Cooper brings his passion for customers and his experience of over 20 years in business leadership roles to the organisation. 

Prior to joining BTFG, Brad led the merger implementation planning and integration between St.George and Westpac as The Westpac Group’s Chief Transformation Officer.

Brad joined The Westpac Group in April 2007 as the Chief Executive of Westpac New Zealand Limited. Prior to joining Westpac, Brad was Chairman of GE Capital Bank and Chief Executive Officer of GE Consumer Finance UK & Ireland. He drove GE's UK Six Sigma program and was certified as a Quality Leader (Black Belt) in December 2002. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of GE Consumer Finance UK in January 2003 and appointed Chairman of GE Capital Bank in April 2004.

David Lees

David Lees

General Manager, Super, Investments & Retirement

David was appointed General Manager, Super, Investments & Retirement in April 2010 and is committed to continuing BTFG's track record of developing innovative products and services that help our customers both preserve and grow their money.

Given he led the merger of BT and St.George's wealth operations, David brings with him an intimate understanding of BTFG and its multi-brand strategy. Since joining BT in 2005 and prior to leading the merger, David has held a number of Executive Team positions including BT's Chief Financial Officer and General Manager of BT’s Wrap & Investment Solutions.

David has been with the Westpac Group since 1997, when he joined The Mortgage Company working on Third-party distribution. He held a number of finance roles, including Acting Chief Financial Officer for the Business and Consumer Bank. He has many years experience in finance, both in Australia and the UK.

Gai McGrath

General Manager, Customer Service

Gai is BTFG's General Manager, Customer Service and is passionate about developing people so they can deliver the very best customer experience to customers.

Prior to taking up this role in December 2008, Gai spent two and a half years as Head of Customer Service Delivery in BT's Wrap and Investment Solutions team. From 2003-2006, she was General Manager, Risk Solutions at BTFG and a member of BTFG's senior management team.

Before joining BTFG, Gai was General Counsel and Company Secretary of Perpetual Trustees Australia. She has more than 16 years experience in senior management roles and 20 years experience in corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, joint ventures and corporate governance.

Gai is a former partner of Sydney-based law firm Rosenblum & Partners. In 2003, Gai was awarded Australian Corporate Lawyer of the Year by the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and more recently won the Customer Service Institute of Australia’s Customer Service Executive of the Year award for 2009/10.  Gai has a Masters of Laws (Distinction) and is a Fellow of Chartered Secretaries Australia. She is co-author of the book ‘Listed Companies: Law & Market Practice'.

Jan Swinhoe

Jan has been leading Westpac’s Private Bank since January 2007 and has a passion for developing lasting relationships based on true understanding and knowledge of our customers.

Having joined the Westpac Group in 1994, Jan held a number of key leadership roles across Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB), including General Manager, Large Corporate, within the Corporate & Institutional Banking arm of WIB. This position involved managing corporate bankers and industry analysts across Australia, Asia, New York, London and New Zealand.

Jan has a Bachelor of Science with Honours majoring in Pure Mathematics, as well as completing actuarial studies through the Institute of Actuaries in London. Jan’s banking career has included experience in derivatives, capital markets (both domestic and offshore) and corporate relationship management.

John Frechtling

John is General Manager, Finance and Risk for BTFG, a role he was appointed to in December 2008. 

John joined the BTFG executive team in May 2008 after two years as Chief Financial Officer of Westpac’s Consumer Financial Services business, having previously served as BTFG’s Chief Financial Officer in 2004.

John joined the Westpac Group in 1992 as a financial controller in New Zealand. He has held a number of key strategic and leadership roles within Westpac, including General Manager, Finance Business Services; Chief Financial Officer, Business and Consumer Banking; and Chief Financial Officer, Consumer Financial Services.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accounts in New Zealand and Australia, John is also a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has also completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

John Shuttleworth

General Manager, Platforms, Marketing and Communications

John Shuttleworth was appointed General Manager, Platforms, Marketing and Communication for BT Financial Group in April 2010. John is focused on platform and product innovation to ensure BTFG's platform's meet the changing needs for advisors and their clients. Previously John was General Manager Superannuation & Investment Solutions, a role he was appointed to in December 2008.

Prior to this, John was General Manager of BT’s Superannuation & Integrated Marketing team. He joined BT in 2004 as General Manager of Group Marketing, leading the project team that developed BT Super for Life.

Before joining BT, John co-founded an internet technology company that grew rapidly from a start-up into a successful services firm before being sold to a NASDAQ listed company.

John has more than 25 years management experience with a core focus on products, marketing and sales, having worked with organisations including Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser, The Smith Snackfood Company and Amalgamated Holdings.

Mark Smith

General Manager, Insurance

Mark was appointed General Manager, Insurance for BTFG in December 2008, following the merger of BTFG with St.George’s wealth business. Mark is committed to developing  insurance solutions that meet the differing needs of all Australians which in turn gives them the security and confidence being insured brings. 

Prior to this, Mark lead BTFG’s Insurance business, following two years as Head of Life Insurance where he launched Westpac Life into the external financial planning channel with the Life on Wrap protection product.

Since Mark joined BTFG's predecessor Bankers Trust Australia in 1993 he has held various management roles across the financial services industry. Before joining the insurance business, he spent two years as CEO of BT Funds Management New Zealand. He also spent four years in BT's Wrap business as Head of Operations and was later Head of the BT Wrap business.

Mark has a Bachelor of Economics degree, a Securities Institute of Australia Graduate Diploma in Finance and an ASFA Diploma in Superannuation. He completed the BT David Williams Fellowship in 2001, an intensive development program awarded to high achievers with leadership potential.

Mark was appointed General Manager, Advice in April 2010.  With more than 20 years' experience in the financial planning industry, Mark is passionate about meeting all of our customers' needs, through the provision of quality advice.

Since joining BT in 2005, Mark's roles have included Head of Advice for the Westpac and St.George Financial Planning channels, and Chief Executive Officer of Magnitude. Prior to joining BTFG, Mark held a number of senior executive positions in the financial services industry, including Chief Executive Officer of RetireInvest.

Mark is actively involved in the development of the financial planning profession and this includes serving as a Director and Deputy Chair of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and Chair of the Legislation and Regulation Committee, which advises the FPA Board on policy matters.

Rebecca Lim

Rebecca was appointed General Manager, St.George Private Clients in April 2010. Reflecting her extensive client-facing experience, Rebecca is committed to developing genuine relationships with customers and providing them with holistic financial solutions tailored to their unique and complex needs.

Most recently Rebecca was Head of the Westpac Group’s Chief Executive’s Office having been appointed to that role in November 2007. Having joined the Westpac Group in 2002 as part of Westpac’s Mergers and Acquisitions Legal team, Rebecca held various roles within Westpac’s Treasury Group and Institutional Bank.  

Rebecca has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Economics and is an active member of the Bronte Surf Life Saving Club.

Royce Brennan

Royce joined BTFG from Westpac NZ, where he held the role of General Manager, Risk Management since December 2005. During his time at Westpac, Royce played a leading role in Westpac NZ’s Basel II accreditation process and streamlining the NZ risk management function.

Prior to this, Royce spent 14 years across senior executive roles within asset management and retail banking, at companies including Investec Asset Management, County NatWest, CRA and Lincoln National. He has a wealth of international experience having worked in the UK, North America and Asia Pacific.

Royce graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia, is a Chartered Director and a Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute (UK).

Shenaz Khan

Shenaz was appointed BTFG’s General Manager, People in December 2008 and is passionate about continuing to develop BTFG's achievement and "can do" culture.  

Shenaz was previously General Manager of BTFG’s People and Performance team. She joined Westpac in August 2006 as Head of Corporate Core People & Performance.

Shenaz has more than 18 years experience in wealth management and life insurance business roles, and eight years experience leading human resources teams.

She has completed the Executive MBA Program, and in 2003 received the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) award for the ‘Most Promising Person for the Advancement of Women’.

Tony Forward

General Manager, Technology

Tony was appointed General Manager, Technology for BTFG in December 2008. Prior to this he held the role of Chief Information Officer for eight years.

Tony joined BTFG's predecessor Bankers Trust Australia in 1990 and has held a number of management roles including Manager of Systems Engineering and Head of Information Technology Infrastructure.

Prior to joining BT, Tony held senior information technology roles at Westpac and in the oil and publishing industries. He has 21 years experience in information technology, and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
