The Chief Executive of BT Financial Group, Brad Cooper brings his passion for customers and his experience of over 20 years in business leadership roles to the organisation. 

Prior to joining BT Financial Group, Brad led the merger of St.George and Westpac as the Westpac Group’s Chief Transformation Officer.

Brad joined the Westpac Group in April 2007 as the Chief Executive of Westpac New Zealand. Prior to joining Westpac, Brad was Chairman of GE Capital Bank and Chief Executive Officer of GE Consumer Finance UK & Ireland. He drove GE's UK Six Sigma program and was certified as a Quality Leader (Black Belt) in December 2002. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of GE Consumer Finance UK in January 2003 and appointed Chairman of GE Capital Bank in April 2004.

Royce Brennan

Royce joined BT Financial Group from Westpac New Zealand, where he held the role of General Manager, Risk Management since December 2005. During his time at Westpac, Royce played a leading role in Westpac New Zealand’s Basel II accreditation process and streamlining the New Zealand risk management function.

Prior to this, Royce spent 14 years across senior executive roles within asset management and retail banking, at companies including Investec Asset Management, County NatWest, CRA and Lincoln National. He has a wealth of international experience having worked in the UK, North America and Asia Pacific.

Royce graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia, is a Chartered Director and a Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute (UK).

Jane Franks

Jane was appointed General Manager, Human Resources in December 2010 to lead BT Financial Group’s strategic initiatives to drive the attraction, retention and growth of our people.

Having spent over 10 years with the Westpac Group working in a variety of Human Resource roles implementing strategies around talent, culture, leadership, employee advocacy and change management, Jane brings her in-depth understanding of BT Financial Group's unique culture and heritage to her role.

Prior to her appointment, Jane most recently worked as Group Executive, Westpac Retail and Business Bank and Head of Executive office to the chief executive of BT Financial Group. She also had Westpac-wide responsibility for the design and implementation of its Employee Advocacy strategy, combining her passion for employees and customers.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Business – Human Resources and International Business and was selected for the David Williams Fellowship 2005, which is a development programme for leadership talent at BT Financial Group.

Phillip Godkin

Equities

Phillip was appointed Managing Director, Equities, in May 2009. Phillip has been with the Westpac Group for over 17 years in a variety of roles ranging from research to leading specialist industry teams. Phillip joined Equities from his role leading Debt Capital Markets, which followed three years in the UK as the Managing Director, Europe and America for Westpac.

Before moving to London, Phillip was the Global Head of Westpac's Financial Institutions, Health and Government business, which accounts for a significant proportion of the bank’s global wholesale banking customer revenues.

Before joining Westpac, Phillip enjoyed a successful career as an equity analyst. Over a period of eleven years Phillip worked with Potts West Trumbull, ANZ McCaughan and CS First Boston, as well as two years in London leading an Australian Equities institutional desk with London firm Willams de Broe.

Chief Information Officer

Richard was appointed Chief Information Officer at BT Financial Group in August 2011. His team’s role is to provide the technology solutions to enable BT Financial Group to meet its strategic goals.

Since joining BT Financial Group in 1997, Richard’s roles have included Head of the Wrap Platforms and Superannuation Technology team, Head of Technology for the Financial Planning Business, Head of Architecture and Head of Customer Applications.

Prior to BT Financial Group, Richard had worked for Advance Funds Management, Digital Equipment Corporation and as an actuary.

Richard has more than 17 years experience in information technology.

Richard is Chief Financial Officer for BT Financial Group.

Richard joined the BT Finanical Group executive team in March 2011 after two years as Chief Financial Officer of Westpac New Zealand.

Prior to joining Westpac, Richard was Infrastructure Fund Manager for Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM), a subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Previously he has been Chief Financial Officer for CFSGAM, and held a number of executive roles including General Manager of Portfolio Analysis and General Manager of Investment Advisory for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

He holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance from Macquarie University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

David Lees

Super and Investments

David was appointed General Manager, Super and Investments in April 2010 and is committed to continuing BT Financial Group's track record of developing innovative products and services that help our customers both preserve and grow their money.

Given he led the merger of BT and St.George's wealth operations, David brings with him an intimate understanding of BT Financial Group and its multi-brand strategy. Since joining BT Financial Group in 2005 and prior to leading the merger, David held a number of Executive Team positions including BT Financial Group's Chief Financial Officer and General Manager of BT Financial Group’s Wrap & Investment Solutions.

David has been with the Westpac Group since 1997, when he joined The Mortgage Company working on third-party distribution. He held a number of finance roles, including Acting Chief Financial Officer for the Business and Consumer Bank. He has many years experience in finance, both in Australia and the UK.

John Shuttleworth

Business Transformation

John Shuttleworth was appointed General Manager, Business Transformation in 2011. He leads the team that is focused on designing and building the next generation wealth platform to support the evolving needs of key customers including advisers, dealer groups and investors.

He joined BT Financial Group in 2004 as General Manager of Group Marketing, leading the project team that developed BT Super for Life. Since then he has held roles as General Manager Superannuation and Investment Solutions, and General Manager, Platforms, Marketing and Communication.

Before joining BT Financial Group, John co-founded an internet technology company that grew rapidly from a start-up into a successful services firm before being sold to a NASDAQ listed company.

John has more than 25 years management experience with a core focus on products, marketing and sales, having worked with organisations including Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser, The Smith Snackfood Company and Amalgamated Holdings.

Mark Smith

Bank Distribution and Insurance

Mark was appointed General Manager, Insurance for BT Financial Group in December 2008, following the merger of BT Financial Group with St.George’s wealth business. Mark is committed to developing insurance solutions that meet the differing needs of all Australians which in turn provides the security and confidence being insured brings.

In 2011 his role expanded to include responsibility for the distribution of BT Financial Group’s advice, superannuation and insurance solutions to customers of the Westpac Group.

He has been with BT Financial Group and its predecessor Bankers Trust since 1993. Since that time he has held various roles including head of life insurance and two years as CEO of BT Funds Management New Zealand. He also spent four years in BT Financial Group's Wrap business as Head of Operations and was later Head of the BT Wrap business.

Mark has a Bachelor of Economics degree, a Securities Institute of Australia Graduate Diploma in Finance and an ASFA Diploma in Superannuation. He completed the BT Financial Group’s David Williams Fellowship in 2001, an intensive development program awarded to high achievers with leadership potential.

Advice

Mark was appointed General Manager, Advice in April 2010. With more than 20 years experience in the financial planning industry, Mark is passionate about meeting all of our customers' needs, through the provision of quality advice.

Since joining BT Financial Group in 2005, Mark's roles have included Head of Advice for the Westpac and St.George Financial Planning channels, and Chief Executive Officer of Magnitude. Prior to joining BT Financial Group, Mark held a number of senior executive positions in the financial services industry, including Chief Executive Officer of RetireInvest.

Mark is actively involved in the development of the financial planning profession and this includes serving as a Director and Deputy Chair of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and Chair of the Legislation and Regulation Committee, which advises the FPA Board on policy matters.

Deanne Stewart

Customer Experience and Marketing

Deanne was appointed General Manager Customer Service in November 2010. In October 2011 her role expanded to include marketing. She has a real passion for our customers and ensuring we provide them with the best and easiest customer experience.

Deanne has a long history with BT Financial Group having started her career as an investment analyst with Bankers Trust Australia before moving to a role in marketing, leading the advertising and market research teams.

After five years at Bankers Trust, Deanne won the prestigious Fullbright scholarship and travelled to the USA to complete her MBA at Yale University. She then worked overseas for leading organisations including Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (New York) and McKinsey & Co (London) where she consulted with European Financial Services companies to develop their high level business strategies.

After ten years overseas, Deanne returned to Australia and to BT Financial Group as Head of Marketing, Product and Client Services for Westpac Private Bank before being appointed as Head of Westpac Private Bank NSW & ACT, Strategy & Operations early in 2008.

Deanne holds a Masters of Business Administration (Yale School of Management, USA - Fulbright Scholar) and a Bachelor of Commerce (UNSW) – majoring in Finance and Marketing.

Jane Watts

Jane joined BT Financial Group as General Manager, Westpac Private Bank in December 2010. In October 2011, her role expanded to General Manager, Private Wealth. She is now responsible for BT Financial Group’s three private banks – Westpac Private Bank, St.George Private Clients and Bank of Melbourne Private.

Jane has extensive experience, energy and passion for providing ‘whole of wealth’ integrated solutions that actively assist customers in reaching their lifestyle and financial goals.

Prior to joining BT Financial Group, Jane was an Executive Director and Head of Wealth Management at Macquarie Bank for 8 years. During this time, Jane was responsible for a portfolio of businesses that included Strategic Financial Planning, the Direct Sales team, Mortgages and Insurance as well as a number of financial planning businesses in which Macquarie held equity stakes.

Before joining Macquarie in 2002, Jane was at Lend Lease/MLC for 8 years where she was the CEO of the retail distribution business which provided a broad range of lifestyle and financial services to over 100,000 employees and executives of more than 100 major corporates in Australia.
